How to Build a Brand that is Strong, Sustainable, and Trusted Expert Tips from Ron Greenbaum: The Basement Doctor

Ron Greenbaum has over 40 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur growing successful businesses from the ground up. Ron is most well-known for being the face of the nationally-recognized The Basement Doctor company. He has over 30 years of experience in the basement waterproofing and foundation repair industry. Greenbaum has grown the Basement Doctor from a local business into the trusted national franchise and trademark that it is today.

Ron is also the owner of Nash Distribution, a supplier to foundation repair, basement waterproofing, mold and crawl space contractors across the United States and Canada. Throughout his career, Ron has developed formulas for success that have made his competition take notice. In an industry not always known for its ethical practices, he has established a long-standing reputation for responsible, honest, and quality service.

THE BASEMENT DOCTOR BRAND BEGINS

In 1999, Ron introduced the national trademark, “The Basement Doctor.” He was the face of his company’s trademark, appearing in major advertising campaigns for print, radio, and television. He is often consulted by leading trade publications and websites for trusted tips and expert home improvement advice.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

But perhaps it is Ron’s philanthropic contributions which stand out the most. He supports many charities and community efforts. Some include Habitat for Humanity, Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Special Olympics, Maria’s Message, Honor Flight and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He also holds a special place in his heart for animals. As a result, Ron has helped launch and support many animal rescue and adoption programs throughout the state of Ohio.

AWARD WINNING

Ron has received a number of honors and awards throughout his career. Some of them are from: CEO Magazine, 15 Business Superstars, 2006, Better Business Bureau Torch Award Winner, 2007 Basement Systems Leadership Award, 2006 and 2010 Nominee, Ernst and Young Small Business of The Year for 2007, Business First, #1 Specialty Contractor Book of Lists, 2005-2009,Consumer’s Choice Award Winner, 1999–2008, Angie’s List Super Service Award Winner, Winner Smart CEO Top 100 Best Run Companies, 2012.

GROWTH FOCUSED

Ron may be recognized as the face of The Basement Doctor, but he is also a writer, a consultant, a speaker, and a serial entrepreneur who is continuing to help businesses from all over the world. He refers to himself as the Chief Strategist Investor, a success catalyst empowering individuals and brands for sustainable growth. You could say he has transitioned from being the Basement Doctor to becoming the Brand Doctor. Ron is also a trusted Greenbaum Stiers Strategic Marketing Group partner, sharing the same vision and desire to breathe new life into brands.
Ron has graciously agreed to share his five ways to improve your business. These are perfect if you’re just starting out or if you already have an established business. Let’s hear from Ron Greenbaum.
In my experience, I have found in order to build the foundation of a successful organization, there are five areas that should have a primary focus. You can think of these five areas as a pyramid but turned upside-down. If you divide this pyramid into the five components they are:

“What is one of the best ways to use
marketing to grow my business?”

1. HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

Having the right team is one of the most important, if not the most important, things you can do to make your company successful. A team will make or break your company. So be sure to hire the right people.

2. TRAIN THEM, TRAIN THEM, TRAIN THEM.

In order to continue the growth of your company, you need to make sure you’re equipping every team member with the training they need to apply their talents, skills, and abilities to improve the company.

3. MOTIVATE THEM.

Every person has something that motivates them. Whether that’s financial, regular words of affirmation, getting a piece of equity in the business, etc. Find out what motivates each team member and give it to them.

4. EVALUATE THEM.

It’s important to tell team members how they’re performing. It gives them something to respond to in order to improve their performance and satisfaction in their position. It’s also important to hear about the challenges within an organization. If there are constant issues within an organization, I would recommend taking a mirror out and evaluating yourself as a leader to see if you’re the real problem.

5. PAY YOURSELF AND YOUR TEAM.

I don’t believe in not paying yourself and your team for your efforts. We all need to make a living, so make sure you’re paying yourself and your team what’s necessary to keep moving forward.
